State Department Probe Could Lead to Deportation of Trita Parsi, The Free Press Reports

The U.S. State Department has launched an investigation into Trita Parsi, a prominent critic of U.S. and Israeli military action against Iran, and is considering whether to revoke his green card and seek his deportation, according to a report by The Free Press.

Parsi, an Iranian-born, Sweden-raised analyst who has lived in the United States for more than 25 years, is co-founder of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and has been a frequent public opponent of military action against Tehran.

The Free Press reported that administration officials are reviewing whether Parsi’s activities undermine U.S. foreign policy interests. The report cited officials, internal documents and a Quincy Institute memo discussing legal preparations in the event Parsi is detained by immigration authorities.

Parsi has denied wrongdoing and has long rejected accusations that he advances Iranian government interests. A State Department spokesperson declined to discuss his immigration status, according to the report.
