Fresno County Authorities Seize More Than Two Dozen Illegal Firearms, Arrest Suspect

M.A.G.E.C. detectives have arrested a 31-year-old Cutler man and seized more than two dozen illegal firearms following a traffic stop and subsequent search warrant, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives with the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium stopped a vehicle Wednesday on American Avenue, north of Orange Cove, for a vehicle violation. During contact with the driver, identified as Cristian Nunez, a deputy saw an AR-15 rifle with a drum magazine on the front seat, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said they later determined Nunez possessed an aftermarket device that increases the rate of fire of the weapon, which is illegal under California law.

Detectives then obtained and served a search warrant at Nunez’s home in Cutler in Tulare County, where they seized more than 25 illegal firearms, authorities said.

Nunez was booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges related to illegally possessing a modified AR-15 and remains held on $200,000 bail. Officials said he is facing additional felony charges and the investigation is ongoing.
