Madera County Authorities Arrest Suspect in Drug, Theft Case After Car Stuck in Mud

A man was arrested after deputies found him stuck in a mud-filled field, methamphetamine in his pocket and suspected stolen agricultural chemicals in his vehicle, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said deputies responded Tuesday to the area of Road 32 and Avenue 12 after a report of a vehicle stuck in a field with water and mud up to the doors. Two people were seen standing near the vehicle, and a nearby agricultural storage unit had reportedly been burglarized.

When deputies arrived, they located the vehicle but no suspects. The vehicle was later towed out of the mud, where deputies discovered about 50 2.5-gallon containers of assorted agricultural chemicals inside.

During the recovery effort of the car, a man returned to the scene and was detained. Deputies said he was found with about 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine and was identified as one of the individuals associated with the vehicle. He also had the vehicle keys, according to authorities.

Investigators later determined approximately $10,000 worth of agricultural chemicals had been stolen from the storage unit.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail on charges including burglary, receiving stolen property, conspiracy, and drug possession.

Deputies said the second suspect remains outstanding as the investigation continues.
