Fresno Police to Ramp up Summer Curfew Enforcement for Minors
The Fresno Police Department will launch a summer crime suppression operation beginning Thursday aimed at preventing violent crime, reducing traffic-related offenses, and improving safety for children and teens, officials announced.
The department said officers will increase enforcement of the city’s juvenile curfew ordinance, which prohibits minors from being in public spaces between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Violations of Fresno Municipal Code 9-2508 could result in officers contacting parents or guardians if minors are found out during curfew hours.
Police said the operation is intended to help prevent youth from becoming victims of crime or making decisions that could have long-term consequences.
“This ordinance is an important tool to help keep minors safe during late-night hours and helps prevent children and teens from finding themselves in unsafe situations,” the department said in a statement.
Officials urged parents and guardians to speak with their children about curfew rules and safe decision-making during the summer months.
The department also pointed families toward youth programming and activities available through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fresno County.
