Fresno Police Identify Suspect in Hit-and-Run That Critically Injured 4-Year-Old

A suspect has been arrested after a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a 4-year-old child Tuesday night, Fresno police said.

Officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to the area of Peach and Nevada avenues, where they confirmed the child had been struck. The child was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators said the child had been in the backyard of a home in the 200 block of North Peach while the child’s father and uncle worked on a vehicle. The child was playing on a nearby swing set, left the yard through a gate without the adults noticing, and walked into the bike lane.

Northbound traffic on Peach Avenue stopped as the child neared the traffic lanes, police said. While vehicles were stopped, a driver entered the bike lane to pass traffic and struck the child. The vehicle stopped briefly before fleeing northbound on Peach.

Witnesses provided a license plate number, allowing detectives to identify the suspect as Aman Kumar. Police said the suspect has been arrested and the vehicle impounded for evidence.
