Fresno Police Arrest Suspect in Domestic Violence Investigation
Fresno police say a man was arrested on outstanding charges following a domestic violence disturbance earlier this month in which a victim reported being prevented from calling the authorities.
On Monday, June 15, at approximately 12:38 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported domestic violence disturbance, according to the Fresno Police Department.
The victim told police she had been in a disturbance with her boyfriend, Ruben Zapata. During an incident on Sunday, June 14, Zapata allegedly covered the victim’s mouth with his hand to prevent her from speaking.
In a separate disturbance on June 15, the victim reported Zapata again placed his hand over her mouth. The victim attempted to call authorities during the incident, but Zapata allegedly took the phone and pulled the cord from the wall, preventing her from completing the call, police said.
Zapata left the location before officers arrived.
On Monday, June 22, Zapata was taken into custody on outstanding charges related to the case and booked into the Fresno County Jail, according to police.
