Fresno Garage Fire Displaces Three Residents, Pets Escape Unharmed

Three residents escaped unharmed after a fire broke out in the garage of a Fresno home Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Firefighters responded shortly before 7 a.m. to the 3300 block of West Rialto Avenue following reports of a residential structure fire.

When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the garage of a single-story home. Initial reports indicated that one occupant may have reentered the residence in an attempt to rescue a cat, leaving uncertainty about whether anyone remained inside.

Firefighters quickly searched the home and confirmed that all three occupants had safely escaped. No injuries were reported.

The fire originated in the garage, but firefighters were able to contain the flames and limit most of the damage to the garage area, preventing significant extension into the living space, officials said.

A total of 31 firefighters responded to the incident and brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Crews remained at the scene afterward to extinguish hot spots and conduct overhaul operations.

The three displaced residents, along with several cats and dogs, are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Fire officials used the incident to remind residents never to reenter a burning building after escaping, even to rescue pets. Instead, officials said, people should remain outside in a safe location and immediately inform arriving firefighters if a person or animal may still be inside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
