Fresno Felon Indicted on Cocaine and Firearms Charges

A federal grand jury has indicted a 49-year-old Fresno man on drug and firearms charges after authorities say they found more than a pound of cocaine and a loaded handgun during a search of his home, officials said.

Maurice Hackett was charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.

Court documents state that on March 25 law enforcement officers searched Hackett’s residence after investigators observed social media posts allegedly linked to him showing firearms and narcotics, along with statements about robbing others for drugs.

During the search, officers reportedly found a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine, more than 1.5 pounds of cocaine, a scale and pay/owe sheets used to track drug transactions. Prosecutors said Hackett is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions in Fresno County and a previous federal conviction.

If convicted, Hackett faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and up to 40 years for the drug charge, an additional consecutive mandatory minimum of five years up to life for the firearms-in-furtherance charge, and up to 15 years for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
