Fresno County Crash Leaves Pedestrian Dead on Highway 41

An adult male pedestrian was killed early Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 41 south of Jensen Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the crash at about 1 a.m. Wednesday in Fresno County.

Investigators said an 83-year-old man was driving a 2017 Hyundai Tucson southbound in the No. 1 lane of Highway 41 when the pedestrian entered the roadway from the west shoulder and walked eastbound directly into the vehicle’s path.

The driver was unable to brake or take evasive action before the collision, CHP said.

The pedestrian was thrown into the center median and suffered major injuries. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Hyundai driver was not injured, remained at the scene, and cooperated with investigators, CHP said. Authorities determined he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Investigators said it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors for the pedestrian.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP Fresno Area.
