Fresno Authorities Arrest Suspect After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends at Zoo
A stolen vehicle pursuit that began early Saturday ended with an arrest inside Fresno Chaffe Zoo after the suspect led officers through neighborhoods, parks, and zoo grounds, according to the Fresno Police Department.
At about 3:45 a.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol Fresno Area requested assistance from the Fresno Police Department during a pursuit involving an occupied stolen vehicle that ended near Belmont and Delno avenues, where the suspect, identified as Shawn Vaughn Goodwin, fled on foot.
Officers established a perimeter and coordinated with CHP units and a drone team from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as they searched through Roeding Park and the Storyland area.
During the search, officers observed Goodwin jump a fence into the zoo, prompting another search inside the zoo grounds. At about 5:30 a.m., officers located the Goodwin, leading to a foot pursuit through the facility.
Authorities said Goodwin ran through the aviary area, climbed onto roofs and moved across multiple structures before being surrounded by officers. He then climbed down and surrendered.
Officials said he was found in possession of more than $10,000 in stolen merchandise.
