Dog with Olympic-Level Side-Eye Seeks Forever Home in Fresno
A 2-year-old border collie mix named Justice Ruthie is looking for a permanent human, bringing with her a blend of sharp judgment, quiet loyalty and what her caretakers describe as “Olympic-level side-eye.”
Ruthie, currently available through Mell’s Mutts rescue, has earned a reputation for noticing everything — from new guests entering a room to subtle changes in household activity — often responding with a dramatic sigh, a suspicious huff or a vigilant stare that suggests she is reviewing the situation in real time.
Despite her tough exterior, caretakers say Ruthie has steadily warmed up to new people. While strangers were once a firm “hard pass,” she has shown consistent progress, including approaching visitors with cautious curiosity and even a tentative tail wag after a sniff.
Inside the home, Ruthie’s behavior is described as calm and well-mannered. She is potty trained, sleeps quietly in her crate both overnight and during work hours, and limits chewing exclusively to toys. Her caretakers say she maintains “calm, respectful house manners” with minimal drama.
A recent outing at Woodward Park suggested Ruthie is also capable of handling busy environments. Surrounded by crowds, dogs, bikes and general activity, she remained composed, observing her surroundings without panic or disruption.
While affectionate in her own reserved way, Ruthie is selective about her trust. She prefers close companionship with her chosen person and is known for staying nearby as a constant presence — what her caretakers jokingly describe as her desire to “faithfully supervise” her human.
She is also described with humor as having a strong personality, with caretakers joking she leans more toward scrutiny than enthusiasm when it comes to men, earning her the tongue-in-cheek title of “Supreme Court of Ruthie.”
Ruthie is fully vetted, spayed and microchipped, and is now accepting applications for her permanent home.
To adopt Ruthie or see other available dogs, visit Mell’s Mutts.
Prospective adopters must submit an adoption application for review to ensure the best match for each pup.
