Clovis Police to Hold DUI Checkpoint on Thursday
The Clovis Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Thursday to deter impaired driving and promote roadway safety.
The checkpoint will run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location, with officials noting locations are selected based on data showing areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes.
Police said impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may affect a person’s ability to drive safely. Officials also noted that while marijuana is legal for medicinal and recreational use, driving under its influence remains illegal.
Authorities said drivers convicted of a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided through a grant from the California Highway Patrol’s Cannabis Tax Grant Program.
