Clovis Firefighters Contain Apartment Fire, Rescue Dog

Clovis firefighters extinguished an apartment fire Wednesday morning and rescued a dog, authorities said.

Fire crews responded to reports of an apartment fire near Peach and Gettysburg avenues. Initial reports indicated smoke was coming from an attached garage.

Squad 42 arrived first and found heavy smoke inside a single-story unit, according to the Clovis Fire Department.

Engine 42 was assigned to attack the fire and quickly located flames in the kitchen. While firefighters worked to suppress the blaze, crews received a report that people might be trapped inside, the department reported.

Engine 41 conducted a primary search of the residence while firefighters continued battling the fire. Crews determined no occupants were inside the building, fire officials said.

During the search, firefighters found a dog inside the residence. Crews provided care to the animal outside before reuniting it with the family.

No civilians or firefighters were injured, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
